I sho’ love me some white people!
Every time I see Black Lives Matter pressed on a t-shirt, I am filled with warmth. Sometimes when I’m sad, which has everything to do with my skin and nothing with life otherwise, I forget who I am. But when I see a passing white person courageously wearing that sign of solidarity, with their noble straight hair, their multicolored eyes and their obscene amounts of privilege, I remember!
I, who never had a sense of self, active goals or lofty dreams before, really matter!
I’m so glad I got that sweet nectar of validation from you, white middle-class college student living in a gentrified cul-de-sac. You stirred something inside that never would’ve emerge otherwise.
It’s all thanks to you.
